OR Society scholarships (UK)

The OR Society offers two master’s degree scholarships up to £10,000 toward tuition fees to support students who wish to continue their studies in the area of Operational Research (OR).
To be eligible applicants need to be UK nationals applying for a master’s degree where at least 40% of the courses relate to OR methods.
All UK nationals applying for University of Edinburgh MSc Business Analytics are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at The University of Edinburgh provides full postgraduate scholarships.
Recruiting exceptional young people committed to pursuing their studies digitally to apply for an Online Scholarship at the University of Edinburgh.
The Scholars Program at the University of Edinburgh will provide 3 year part-time online Master’s scholarships & 2-year part-time postgraduate Diploma scholarships to students living or working in Africa with great academic and leadership potential but few educational opportunities.


You must qualify academically for admission to the University of Edinburgh. We prefer that applicants apply to this scholarship before applying to the University.
Applicants can apply for either:

  • Online Masters (part-time over 3 years) OR
  • Online Post-graduate Diploma (part-time over 2 years)

You must meet the eligibility criteria to apply:

  • Applicants must qualify academically for admission to the University of Edinburgh for a relevant degree programme listed above.
    You will generally need to have achieved the equivalent of a UK Second Class (Upper) Bachelor’s (Hons) degree or higher
  • Applicants must have graduated from undergraduate study before December 2024 and must be in possession of a degree certificate and official, final transcript to upload alongside their application
  • Applicants must be residents and citizens of a Sub-Saharan African country
    Applicants must be without the financial means to study oversees independently
  • We particularly welcome applications from female scholars, scholars from refugee and displaced backgrounds, and scholars with disabilities (see FAQs below for further information)
  • Applicants must demonstrate a track record of leadership and service within their community
  • If applying for the Masters programme: Applicants should not have previously completed a postgraduate degree and should not be enrolled (or apply to enrol) at a separate university whilst on the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship
  • If applying for the PG diploma: Applicants can either have an undergraduate or Master’s degree from a Sub-Saharan African university (provided they will graduate from either degree before December 2024).

If you have a Master’s degree, our admissions team will review you first degree (undergraduate) to meet the post graduate diploma entry requirement.
The MCF team will review your Master’s degree transcripts to confirm the graduation date and location of your University.

  • Applicants must be 35 or under on the 1 September 2024

Applications for our 2024 MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program, for postgraduate degrees only, will open on 15 December at 10am UK time and will close on 27 January 2025 at 5pm UK time.
Only graduated, or are soon to graduate, Mastercard Foundation Scholars from a Mastercard Foundation partner institution are eligible to apply.

University of Edinburgh tuition fee alumni scholarships

The University of Edinburgh offers two tuition fee scholarship schemes for alumni of the University.

Graduate Scholarship Scheme

The university is currently offering a 10% scholarship in postgraduate degree tuition fees for all alumni who have graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University of Edinburgh.

Alumni (Visiting Undergraduate) Scholarship Scheme

The University of Edinburgh offers a 10% scholarship in postgraduate degree tuition fees for all students who have previously matriculated on a “Visiting Programme” as an undergraduate student and completed a minimum of one semester of study at the University of Edinburgh.


We are offering a number of scholarships for applicants demonstrating the highest levels of academic achievement. The scholarships are worth £5,000 each and will be paid directly to students in instalments as contributions to living costs.
These awards will be tenable for the duration of the programme of study and are subject to satisfactory academic progress.

University of Edinburgh MSc Business Analytics Eligibility

  • An undergraduate degree in any disciplinary area related to management science, operational research, statistics, econometrics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or business and management which incorporates a distinct quantitative element is required
  • Candidates with a first class or 2:1 honours degree in an unrelated subject area but who have relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis
  • Candidates’ background should ideally include courses and/or experience gained in topics such as linear algebra, calculus, probability, statistics, and computer programming

Supporting your application

  • Relevant work experience is not required but may increase your chances of acceptance
  • Relevant professional qualifications will be considered
  • Preference will be given to those with grades above the minimum requirements due to strong competition for places on this programme

5. Pay your application fee

A non-refundable application fee of £60 is payable before your application can be considered. Payment should be made once you have submitted your online application and received your UUN (Universal Username), and before the application deadline of the round you are applying in.
